Cable car in London

Cable car in London

London is working on the first cable car across the River-Thames in East- London. It is unsure if it will be finished before the Olympics. There are 36 gondolas and in five minutes you are on the other side of the river. The cable car is a very expansive one. The bill could be 62,5 pounds. 36 pounds comes from sponsorship another eight from European regeneration money. The rest will probably come from taxpayer’s money. The plan is to be open in the summer of 2012. The cable car is probably going to be a tourist attraction and a fast way to cross the river.

When I read this article I immediately thought: This is the solution for traffic congestion. Why not built more cable cars and get around true the air? The problem is that cable cars are very expansive. When you coming from outside London it must be spectacular to take the cable car across the river. The views are stunning, I think.  Perhaps we can build a cable in the Netherlands as well. The problem is that it is very expansive to build a cable car and because we are in the middle of a financial crisis, it won’t be possible now.

  1. Hi Elvera

I read your article and I hope this cable car will be ready in July! I will tell yoy why: beginning of July I will be traveling to the UK with one of my former students, an autistic 15 year old boy. this morning, we booked our flights and hotel and he was so excited about it! He loves cable cars so I hope the project will be ready in time because it would really make his day!!

    kind regards,

  2. Reading this article, I am even getting more excited to visit London next summer. How great would it be to cross the Thames by cable car, having a magnificent view over London. Although, I hope fares will not be too expensive. Any case, I hope it will be open while Inge Z. and her former student are visiting London. Wish you the two of you a wonderful stay!

  3. I was in London in March and I did not see any preperations for the cable car. Unfortunately, because I would have liked to cross the Thames with it. I took the ferry and that was a short and beautiful trip as well. You can pay with your Oyster card, so it is not that expensive. That could be a back up plan for Inge and her former student.

  4. Unfortunately I am afraid of heights and would therefore never use the cable car. I would rather stick to the ground; take the ferry and a use a real London mini cab. Using the underground is also a very good and cheap option.
