Four-year-old girl joins Mensa with159 IQ

A four-year-old girl with an IQ just one point below Albert Einstein and Stephan Hawking has been accepted into Mensa. When she was two years old she taught herself to read and was able to count till forty. Her name is Heidi Hawkins. According to the Mensa, the signs of an intelligent child are: an unusual memory, able to read at an early age, intolerance of other children and has an awareness of world events. A child with a high IQ is also asking questions all the time. The chief executive of the Mensa said that they aim to provide a positive environment for younger members to develop.

Opinion
It’s really amazing, a child who taught herself to read at the age of two. I only have one question:” how do they test a young child? “It is not possible to test them with a normal test for adults. The brains of a two years old child are still growing. Do they have special IQ test for children? The article doesn’t say anything about how they testing young children. My opinion is that it is not possible to know what the IQ is from a child. I would like to know from my class members how they think about testing a young child and if it is possible to create an  IQ test for young children.

  1. When children are able to read, you can test them by giving them for instance written questions. There are several IQ tests for children. The test for the age up to twelve is different than the test for children from twelve to eighteen. The outcome of the tests will give a clear view of the child's intelligence.

  2. I have looked it up because I was curious as well. There are tests created for young children. ( http://www.expertrating.com/3yrs-Childrens-IQ-test.asp ) This girl is probably going to be very famous, I think. There aren’t that many people who are that smart. What a shock it would be for the parents, I imagine!

  3. It is amazing such a young child can be that smart and get to go to Mensa. Having a high IQ has a lot of pros and cons though... Mostly those children are, like the article said, intolerant towards other children and probably will not have many friend when she gets older. She probably will have great potential and as for her career she will have a great future ahead.
